The end of the term has come quickly – there has been a lot of mahi accomplished by students and of course their teachers. Warm thanks to our families for staying connected and for helping out with major events like camps and sports events.
On Friday we sent out our second batch of reports to help whanau keep up to date with how their children are doing at school. There were still a few delivery error notes on our system which means that some of the email addresses we have are incorrect. If you haven’t received the ‘Week 10’ report yet, could you please get in touch and we can either get you a print copy or set up emails to make sure the next one gets to you.
We would also love to have any feedback from you regarding the reports so please get in touch if there is anything you would like to share with us.
Going forward we will be adding in a ‘Recognitions and Awards page’ to help build out the report to be even more representative of how our students are succeeding at school.
The school student roll has opened slightly to take a few enrolments – our office staff have been in touch with whanau waiting to come in and arrangements have been made to receive five new students next term. Although the waiting list is still in place, it has become a little smaller and this would be a good time for whanau considering enrolling students in the school to contact the school to get added to the wait list, then follow up with the Application for Enrolment.
I would like to acknowledge our staff for all of the care and work they put in to build relationships with, educate and nurture our young people. I also want to thank staff, students and whanau who have put in so many hours in preparation for the Taitokerau Kapa Haka festival at Opononi. Special thanks to Michelle and Komene. Although many of our school whanau are attending this event, there are many who won’t be able to make it, and for those who have been unable to make it to Opononi, we will run a special performance for our people early next term.
We begin next term on the 28th April.

TTT FESTIVAL
This year Te Tai Tokerau Festival will be held at the Opononi Area School on the 9th-10th April, Our kura will be performing on the 10th, first performance will be at 2pm and then 2:30pm. whanau are welcome to come along to watch and support the tamariki in their performance.
Congratulations to Hawaiki who has been accepted into the year long NorthTec Construction Academy Trades course and has been attending every Thursday! We are really proud of you and we can’t wait to see what else you create over the year.
Ocian has started a work placement with Canopy Imaging to explore the world of medical imaging. She’s passionate about pursuing a career in Sonography or another area within the medical imaging industry. We’re so excited for her to have this opportunity to gain hands on experience.
A big congratulations to Maui who is also attending the NorthTec Construction Academy. Maui is really enjoying his course and is currently working on a stool. We can’t wait to see it! Well done Maui!

Kia ora whanau, just letting you know that the School Awhi Group (PTA) is fundraising towards a new slide. At school we’ll be selling Juicies for $1-50 to go towards this project each Friday till the end of the term one.

WHAT ARE ATTENDANCE DUES?
The Ministry of Education does not fund building related costs at our School. Attendance Dues are only used to pay for building related costs. They can not be used for any other purposes. Paying Attendance Dues is a condition of enrolment for all students attending our School. Attendance Dues are compulsory – there is a legal requirement for parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues under the Education and Training Act 2020. They are not a donation.
