Principles Notice
Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone.
It was great to see so many of you at the Kapa Haka performance last evening here at the school. While the students were great at Opononi, they lifted to another level here last night and blessed us all with a God honouring performance. Huge thanks to Michelle and Komene for the tireless hours of work and greatly supported by Joey and the team around them – he mihi maioha ki a koutou.
Reports
Tomorrow we will be sending progress reports home again – for students in years 7 to 13, these are emailed to whanau. For our Primary students (years 1 to 6) they are printed out for the students to bring home. These reports come every three weeks. The next phase in the development is to get our Primary reporting into the email format. There is a bit of training necessary for that to happen but I am hoping this will be in place by the start of next term.
Parent interviews will be held at the beginning of term 3.
Uniform
We have been holding discussions about the school uniform. There is always a wide range of opinion about uniforms in school and why we have them – good arguments are made for most positions held , however, in this kura, we have a uniform for students to wear and we think that it is something to be valued. For it to be valued, it needs to be a uniform that whanau and students can be proud of, in that it speaks of unity, quality and steadfastness.
The discussion is being led by students who are requesting that we reintroduce blazers, ties and white shirt/blouse for the senior students (years 9 – 13). They have also requested we introduce knitted vests and jumpers/jerseys. To move forward we are assembling a team of students, whanau and staff to help us enhance our school uniform. If you are interested in helping out please let us know.
Attendance
In my last article I shared that our attendance to the end of Term 1 had improved to 86%. While that is a good result, it is not excellent and we are still aiming for at least 90% across the school. To support us the Ministry of Education have set up a service (Ara Whakamaua) to liaise between the school and whanau who have students attending less than 80% so that we can help families to get the best benefit for their students attending school. The Bible encourages us in Proverbs to develop good habits while we are young and in this way we will have firm ground as we go through life – Proverbs 22:6 ESV
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Behavior
When we interview whanau who wish to join the school, one of the most common reasons (apart from being in Christian education) for choosing this school is that parents perceive the school as being a safe place for their children. While this is indeed the case, there have been recent incidents in which student behavior has not met our expectations and have been out of line with our values of caring for, and respecting others – demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians chapter 5.
I have been disappointed to have to be addressing incidences of bullying and physical aggression towards others and I want to encourage all of us that it should not be like this in any setting and particularly ours. We are ambassadors for Christ, and our kaupapa is one of unity and peace. The Bible tells us that we, as believers are in the Kingdom of God and that this kingdom is one of righteousness, peace and joy. Please, may we all put on the mind of Christ and press in to His power and strength so that we may truly be the ‘beacon on the hill’ – that as in Romans 12:9-13
9 Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. 10 Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. 11 Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit,[g] serve the Lord. 12 Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. 13 Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
Nga mihi mahana/ blessings to all

TEACHERS NOTICE
WEETBIX TRIATHLON
A few photos of some of our students participating in the triathlon this morning.
Kotahitanga Girls 1st XV Rugby has their first game this Wednesday. Girls from our Kura are Tai Tokerau Nordstrand, Atlanta Nordstrand, Kuini Kingi and Taylah Anderson. They have a hard act to follow as they have not lost in the past three years. We wish them well.
To all parents
Thank you for your support in the start up of our technology center. If you do have
any spare tools and machinery which you no longer need, we need it. Please contact
the school and let them know. I am also looking for timber for woodwork models. If
you have some lying around and you wish to clean up and donate it to our school,
please let the school know.
On a more serious note, I expect the technology center will be up and running for
classes within two (2) weeks. Due to this being a workshop, the NZ Law requires that
all students wear covered shoes in a workshop space. Thus, no sandals or crocks,
only covered shoes. Please could all students wear the correct footwear from next
week. This will get them into the habit of wearing their covered shoes in the
technology center.
Thank you

Paying Attendance Dues is a condition of enrolment for all students attending our School. Attendance Dues are compulsory – there is a legal requirement for parents and caregivers to pay Attendance Dues under the Education and Training Act 2020. They are not a donation.
