Principles Notice

Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone.

He mihi mahana tenei ki a koutou katoa.

Welcome back to the beginning of this new term. It has been great to see the energy and excitement among our students right from the outset.

We finished off last term on a positive note where I was able to report a big improvement in attendance and engagement to you. It seems we have carried on from where we left off and I am thankful to whanau, students and staff for this positive start.

Many of you will have noticed the refurbishments that have been taking place over the last several months – specifically exterior and interior painting, new carpets and flooring for wet areas and new wall coverings (Autex) to make sure our learning environments are quality environments. The result speaks for itself in that every learning space now gives the best opportunity to encourage students to engage and be successful in all areas of their learning.

This is a great time for us all to re-focus on what it means to be a good steward of the resources that the Lord has blessed us with, and when we think of it, He has provided everything that we could possibly need. When I think of His provision I am amazed at the fullness of it – we have been blessed with beautiful buildings and classrooms, digital devices for all of our students to enable 21st century learning, an abundance of food, including free lunches, fruit, cereals and nutrition bars, bread, milk and free shoes through Kids Can. Right next to us we have full access to the playing fields, we have access to the swimming pool and to the sports stadium in Lindvart Park – all of which are looked after by other entities – this is the provision and care of the God we serve.

Sadly, I need to say that there is not much evidence to show we are looking after our resources well – in fact it is safe to say we are tending to take this provision for granted. It has been placed on my heart to have a strong focus on this area, to develop systems and routines that better meet the stewardship needs of the school and then to work together with our staff, students and whanau to show how we value and appreciate what we have here. We are truly ‘rich’ in the Lord…

1 Timothy 6:17-19 ESV

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

Matthew 24:45-46 (ESV)

“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes.

Over the term we will work to bring this kaupapa into focus, looking at each area of provision to make sure we are respecting and valuing it. O begin with we will be focussing on routines that support the maintaining of our quality environments – this will include managing our digital resources (chromebooks and chargers), and reviewing our lunch eating routines, end of lesson and end of day routines and routines that make sure our school grounds are kept tidy. I know this is going to be hard work for everyone but I also know we are all up for it.

Reporting to Parents.

This term we continue refining the new reporting system – the last batch was sent out to all families in the second to last week of term. This term we will send out reports in Week 3, Week 6, and Week 9. At the beginning of Term 3 we will run full parent interviews.

Nga mihi mahana

FOR PARENTS AND WHANAU

Kia ora,

We are Clair and Owen Pihema and we run a beautiful taiao (nature) based preschool in Waima. Our staff are kind, loving and caring towards tamaiti. Our whanau are looking into providing transportation from Kaikohe for taitamariki to engage in a unique learning experience.

We bake, hikoi on the whenua and run a thriving little maara. If you would like for your child to experience an early childhood without screens, with staff who know God’s love we would welcome your inquiries.

Nau mai haere mai,
