Memory Verse
A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1
PRINCIPAL’S NOTICE
PRINCIPALS REPORT
Kia ora whanau, our present roll is 157. When the tamariki are happy, we are making progress.
Strategic Goals:
Attendance Management Plan: We continue to track well and have made good progress. With winter now upon us, our challenge is to keep our students engaged and
attending. Our weekly attendance is sitting at 84%. Well done, parents, keep it up. Congratulations to years 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 100% attendance week 7.
Academia:
Primary and Secondary Staff & Professional Development Update. We continue to be engaged with PD with the present emphasis on English Years 0-10, as well as AI.
Student Leadership Development: Our student leadership development programme is starting to flourish in our kura. Students meet weekly with our Leadership coach, Whaea Lana, to plan and strategise areas of service for our kura. The present project is the 40 Hour Famine.
Writing Coaching: Writing coach Whaea Jessica Anderson Smith has been leading our Talk for Writing approach across Years 1-8. This means that when we onboard new staff, they get the guidance and support they need to implement our structured writing programme. A scope and sequence, model texts and toolkits are provided, and also discussions around our process and progress are an integral part of our syndicate meetings. It must be mentioned that most students show enjoyment in using this approach to writing. Trish Vesey is currently doing the MoE Years 7-10 Writing PLD, which is looking at high-impact acceleration strategies for writing. For example, Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) is an evidence-based instructional framework that helps students become confident, independent writers. We will be looking more into this for Years 7-10.
Sports Academy / Sport: As I write, our secondary NFL team is competing in Wellington with other kura from across the motu. Live update, they have won their pool and now go into the quarter finals.
Homework Centre: We are still in the process of setting this up.
Nga Manu Korero: Dechei August Kaka and Nyah Virginia Rose Solomona entered the Junior and Senior English, with Dechei coming 6th and Nyah coming 10th. These are both commendable results as this is our kura’s first serious entry into this prestigious competition. We will now be entering annually.
Te Reo Māori: This is a work in progress. I am applying for Level 3 Funding for Years 9-13, which requires 7.5 hours per week minimum. We are somewhat off from our target; however, we have to start somewhere. Six staff are doing online Te Reo Māori Stage 1, and we are also blessed with 3 Native speakers, myself, Komene, and Whaea Waiora. Therefore, the kura is in a healthy situation moving forward. Whaea Waiora is a fixed-term for this year; however, I am looking to re-employ her. Years 1-8 are still on 4B Funding, which is very minimal
Pohiri: On Wednesday, we had a wonderful pohiri for Ethel Hapeta Kemp at the Community Law Office on Broadway. Ethel will have 1 day a week at the Law office, understanding areas of law as she intends to go to Waikato University next year. Very exciting as we continue to reach out to providers for our tauira.
Trades: Petersen Motors has allowed Daizaleah Marupo to gain work experience, and going well, she is hoping that they will take her on as an apprentice.
Bible Years 1-13: We will be taking a survey to see if our Biblical Curriculum needs changing or if everyone is happy with the status quo.
Prayer: We have a lunchtime prayer meeting for girls every Wednesday, which is run by our Teacher Aid, Sarah.
Praise and Worship: We are very grateful to Whaea Bev Baines for raising a primary group that is slowly coming to fruition.
.
Chess: Very good progress with the chess, with the students looking forward to competing.
Praise God, His mercies endure forever.
Nga mihi
Matua Te Rangi Allen
