THIS WEEK’S MEMORY VERSE

“I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help
comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Psalm 121:1-2

CARE FOCUS:“I am treating others with respect and care.”

PRINCIPALS’ NOTICE

Tena koutou whanau ma – warm greetings to everyone

Positive Beginnings

The start to our year has been amazing – we are so thankful for our students and whanau who are so invested into their education. We have enrolled many new whanau into the school and we have many more students who have applied to come in but are currently on a waiting list because we area ta capacity. There are positives and negatives associated with this, the main negative being that we want our new rangatahi to be able to join us now. For us here in the kura now, I am observing real commitment to learning and relationships, whanaungatanga and aroha, right from the ‘get-go’ and I thank God for His guidance, provision and protection.

Nga Mihi Aroha

With regards to whanau who have returned to our kura, we reach out to Whanau Baker at this incredibly difficult time and we join our community to support in any way we may be able.

Covid

Last week we posted info about how we plan to respond if there is a Close contact or case in the school. The over-riding focus is to make sure we are doing what we need to do practically to prevent infection, and then to respond appropriately when situations call for it. The students are responding well to help us make sure there is adequate ventilation and to keep classrooms clean. We need to keep up the reminders about hand-washing and sanitising. We are not having great buy-in to mask-wearing when inside and we have shared our thoughts with you about that, encouraging you to keep these conversations going with your young ones.

This is a time of great division in our country – and division in the worldly sense (based on ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’, ‘do’s and do-nots’) is not something we would ascribe to. Our interactions and example to others is on the basis of Christ-love. We grapple with rights and obligations… Should I do this? Or “Don’t tell me what to do!” and when we come to our decision and we get upset that others don’t agree with our position on a matter. It should not be like this – James 3:10

James 3:17-18

17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

Love in Action Romans 12:9-21

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honour one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e]

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
